School Nurse - LVN

Backstage Health is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) for a school-based assignment in Sunnyvale, California. This is a W-2 seasonal position for the remainder of the school year.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor and with Credentialed School Nurse (CSN) oversight, the LVN will provide nursing care to students who require specialized health services. Responsibilities include:

• Provide direct nursing care to students requiring specialized health care procedures
• Monitor students for changes in health status and respond appropriately
• Provide diabetic care, including blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration per physician orders, and recognition of hypo- and hyperglycemia
• Perform physician-ordered skilled nursing procedures, which may include:
• G-tube feedings and care
• Catheterization
• Suctioning
• Range-of-motion exercises
• Other specialized health care procedures
• Recognize and respond appropriately to cardiovascular and respiratory emergencies and anaphylaxis
• Support students with sensory deficits and other health-related needs
• Follow physician orders, individualized health plans, emergency plans, and established nursing protocols
• Collaborate with school staff, parents, physicians, and nursing personnel
• Maintain accurate nursing notes, procedure logs, and required documentation
• Provide care in a manner that minimizes disruption to the student’s educational program
• Accompany students on school transportation when required
• Assist with mobility and other student health needs as appropriate
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Current California LVN license required
• Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS certification
• Experience with G-tube care and feedings
• Experience recognizing and responding to respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies
• Knowledge of anaphylaxis recognition and emergency response
• Experience with diabetic care preferred
• Pediatric or school nursing experience preferred
• Successful completion of a clinical skills assessment and competency verification prior to placement
