- Assists medical, nursing, and administrative staff with the daily use of electronic health record systems, including the Probation Electronic Medical Records System (PEMRS), and related healthcare technologies; troubleshoots basic system issues and promotes proper implementation and adherence to established workflows.
- Follows standardized clinical workflows, nursing policies, and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery across Juvenile Court Health Services (JCHS) sites and supports youth health initiatives.
- Assists in the preparation and maintenance of operating documentation, including workflows, policies, and procedures.
- Identifies current clinical workflows and assists in developing and implementing improved workflows, policies, and procedures to support standardized clinical operations and optimal patient care.
- Participates in the analysis, design, evaluation, testing, and implementation of electronic health record systems and related technologies.
- Assists in the orientation and training of new nursing staff and participates in staff development activities, including conducting training sessions on electronic health record systems and workflows on an individual or group basis.
- Assists with data entry, monitoring, and tracking of patient care activities, appointments, and program needs using PEMRS and related systems, including the Probation Case Management System (PCMS).
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, including Probation, Department of Mental Health (DMH), and Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) staff, to coordinate patient care and ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Maintains familiarity with JCHS technologies and tools used in patient care and reports issues or recommendations for improvement to supervisory staff.
- Assists in maintaining accurate records and supports internal systems, including SharePoint, by uploading documents and making basic updates as assigned.
- Accurately documents patient information, vital signs, treatments, and observations in accordance with established workflows, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Responds to patient care needs and assists in emergency response situations as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
The position is open to all permanent County of Los Angeles employees who have successfully completed their initial probationary period and currently hold the payroll title of REGISTERED NURSE I.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of acute care, clinic, ambulatory, or nursing informatics-related experience, or its equivalent.
LICENSE
A current, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS
3 – Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, bending, stooping, lifting, and working in a clinical and secure environment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in nursing informatics, electronic health record systems, or clinical systems implementation.
- Experience in acute care, ambulatory care, or correctional health settings.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems such as Cerner, Epic, or Meditech.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience providing training or education to staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other digital tools.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to providing patient-centered care to youth in a correctional setting.
SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
Positions may require working in secure juvenile detention facilities and adherence to all County, DHS, and Probation safety and access protocols. Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
COMMENTS
This position supports both direct patient care and nursing informatics functions to enhance clinical operations, data integrity, and healthcare delivery within Juvenile Court Health Services.
