Outpatient Registered Nurse

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Join our dedicated team as an Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN CAP 1) where you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care. In this entry-level position within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP), you will be responsible for the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care for a designated group of patients. Collaborate with healthcare professionals and lead a team to enhance patient outcomes in our End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform essential nursing functions with guidance from supervisors and collaboration with other team members.
• Conduct thorough assessments and document patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatments, modifying care plans as needed and communicating with the healthcare team.
• Identify and address the educational needs of patients and their families, providing ongoing support and information.
• Guide the delivery of safe and effective hemodialysis therapy, ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.
• Administer prescribed medications and document the effectiveness while responding to emergencies when required.
• Participate in training and orienting new staff, while acting as a resource for your healthcare team.
• Manage lab collection protocols and ensure timely processing of specimens.
• Assist patients in understanding their treatment options, including transplant possibilities.
• Complete CAP requirements for professional growth and advancement.
• Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This role involves direct patient care, which requires lifting, assisting with patient mobility, and prolonged standing. You may need to move equipment up to 200 lbs and lift materials up to 30 lbs. The work environment mirrors that of a healthcare facility, which includes temperature control and moderate noise levels, with an element of potential exposure to infectious materials. Flexibility for travel to training sites may be required.

SUPERVISION

Oversee the work of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs as a Team Leader or Nurse in Charge upon fulfilling initial training and experience conditions.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current state licensure and CPR BLS Certification.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS

This is an entry-level position ideal for RNs with less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience, preferably with chronic/acute hemodialysis experience.
